
Matthew grew up in Jackson County, living in Scottsboro most of his life.
He graduated from Scottsboro High School in 2002. He attended four semesters at Northeast Alabama Community College, then transferred to UAH where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s degree in Public Affairs.
The summer after his high school graduation, Matthew ran for seat 5 on the Scottsboro city council and won with a 5 vote margin one day after his 19th birthday. He has served in that position for the past nine years, and he has developed strong working relationships with local, state, and federal leaders.
During his time on the council, Matthew participated in several projects, such as the expansion to the recreation complex and the development of the industrial park in Hollywood, AL.

Matthew currently lives in Scottsboro with Dana, his wife, and his baby boy Alex, born January 3rd, 2012.
He is also an active member of his church.
